Southern is part of the train company L1/TSGN Rail. We started operation temporarily in March 2014, with the permanent contract from September 2014. However, the new branding was re-launched in January 2016, when the new /gatwickairlink was introduced between Victoria and Gatwick Airport/Brighton, as well as the increase of /londoncrosslink services to Brighton (which is not part of L1/TSGN Rail). This is the largest rail franchise in terms of passengers, staff and fleet in the UK, and with this comes a very big responsibility and expectation to deliver a service. With the ongoing replacement of aging Class 455 trains, capacity and service are improving heavily.
